Reusable bags

There’s nothing scientific about what makes a bag reusable – if it can be used more than once, the bag is 'reusable'. These bags might include calico carry-alls, hand baskets or even your faithful backpack.

Over the past five years, Australians have bought or been given tens of millions of reusable shopping bags. In the process we have managed to reduce our plastic bag usage by billions of bags.

The popular reusable ‘Green Bag’ was actually invented in Ireland where a plastic bag levy was introduced in 2002. The Green Bag was the result of a push to develop a reusable bag that people would actually use. With their reinforced base the bags are able to stand up, making grocery unpacking a lot easier than with floppy plastic bags. Their strong handles make carrying much easier too.

Every time you use a reusable bag, you reduce the world's need for at least two plastic bags. Not only do you prevent plastic bag pollution, but your efforts will help save natural resources by reducing plastic bag production.

Remembering to use them is a little effort for a big result!
